Nokia Asha 501 & Asha 501 Dual SIM 11.1.1 SW release

A quick “heads up” for the Nokia Asha 501 (RM-899 & RM-900) and Nokia Asha 501 Dual SIM (RM-902) v. 11.1.1 SW update that started rolling out last week. This is a major release and already available to most of the users via Over-The-Air (FOTA). Find the update instructions from here: http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/new-nokia-asha-software-update.

Key changes compared to previous 10.0.xx SW versions include:

  • WhatsApp support added – after updating the software, tap the WhatsApp icon in the main menu to download the latest version of WhatsApp.

  • Over 5000 other apps available from Nokia Store, including Line, WeChat & Nimbuzz.

  • Usability improvements, such as single-swipe access to camera, single-touch share to Facebook and ability to track Facebook comments and likes right from your Fastlane screen.

  • Privacy improvements – delete items directly from Fastlane and control which apps you want to see on Fastlane.

  • Microsoft Exchange active sync support for office emails.

  • General improvements for phone stability and performance, alarm tone volume, Wi-Fi connectivity, video streaming, Chinese text input, and more.

By default your phone is set to automatically check for updates every 8 days and you will be notified when an update is available for download. If you want, it’s possible to force the update check immediately by switching off and back on “Check via mobile data” setting from the “Phone update” menu.

The size of the update is around 7-8 MB, so it’s recommended to use Wi-Fi for the download.
